If you missed the Special Broadcast on Sunday, here is the link. Watch it at your convenience, but I do recommend watching it. I am sure you will be as inspired as I was about missionary work and what we can do to help. In conjunction with this broadcast there is a new website to help "Hasten the Work of Salvation." Check it out. You can be sure we'll be hearing more about these resources in the future.
**********
If you've worked on your Personal Progress, don't forget to contact Christine S. She will be doing drawings for those working towards this goal.
**********
Due to the success of last year's Point of Light program for girls camp, we ave been asked by the Stake Young Women to provide dinner to the young women of the ward the final night at camp, Friday, July 19th. We will be sending around a sign up sheet on the 30th for dishes that will need to be prepared. If you would like to help prepare part of the meal please be sure to sign up. We will be feeding close to 40 or more young women and leaders from our ward and will need a lot of help.
*********
Don't forget to check out the Summer Activities  list for ideas of things to do when the kids are BORED.
*********
Youth camps are just around the corner but some of the youth still have money they need to earn to pay for their camp. Please consider hiring one of the young men or young women to do odd jobs around the house to help them with this goal. For ideas of which youth need work, contact a youth leader.

Cleaning Tips from our Relief Society Meeting

If you missed June's mid-week Relief Society Meeting you missed a fun time. Here are the recipes that were shared for make-it-yourself cleaning products and some of the tips that were shared.

Shopping List (all of these items were purchased at the Dollar Store and the products can be made for less than $8 plus the cost of a spray bottle)

  • White Vinegar
  • Fabric Softener
  • Baking Soda
  • Dawn
  • Lavender and Citrus Fragrance
  • Olive Oil
  • Spray bottle for each item
Use in the following 4 remedies:

Windex substitute
1 tsp Dawn
half bottle white vinegar
half bottle water

Pledge substitute
2 tsp olive oil (can use a little more)
2 cups water
1/4 cup water
*citrus fragrance

Fabreeze substitute
1/8 cup fabric softener
2 tbs baking soda

*lavender fragrance

Bathroom/Kitchen Cleaner (because vinegar & baking soda create a chemical reaction put some water in bottle first to dilute the reaction)
1/2 cup vinegar
1/4 cup baking soda
fill bottle with water
*citrus fragrance

Store bought cleaners that work for other sisters:

  • ZEP (home improvement stores)-for hard water
  • CLR (home improvement and discount stores)-for hard water, doesn't hurt paint
  • Simple Green (automotive section of discount store)-full strength for greasy stove, microwave
  • SoiLove ($ store)-great for all laundry, rug, upholstery stains (used at the Temple)
  • Magic Eraser (most stores)- great for cleaning the textured bottom of tub/shower and tub ring (give your legs a workout while in shower by using your feet to "scrub" with the eraser, takes an extra 5 min while you're already in there)
Household products used in a different way:
  • Ammonia
    • removes ink from clothing
    • place stove pans and grates in plastic bag with a little ammonia & hot water, seal and leave overnight, grease will wipe off easily
    • soak combs and brushes in ammonia then rinse hair product buildup out
  • Hair spray
    • Also removes ink from clothing
  • Rubbing alcohol
    • use to remove cleaner buildup on granite, rinse afterwards
  • Baking soda
    • make a paste with water, wipe it all over inside of oven door, let sit at least 20 minutes, wipe off and rinse well
    • unclog drains (Pour a pot of boiling hot water down your drain.Dump in about 1/2 c. baking soda. Let that sit for a few minutes. Then, pour a mixture of 1 c. vinegar and 1. c very hot water down on top of the baking soda. Cover with a drain plug-to keep the reaction down below the drain surface-if you have one and let it sit for 5-10 minutes.Flush one more time with a pot of boiling water.)
  • Vinegar
    • use in dishwasher instead of JetDry
    • use in rinse cycle of washer to remove musky smell
    • run in empty dishwasher to clean hard water residew
  • Newspaper
    • instead of paper towels for washing windows-no streaks or lint left over
  • Bleach
    • use with a toothbrush to clean grout in tile
  • Household broom
    • for cleaning the tub/shower enclosure quickly and without putting strain on your knees-apply cleaner to bristles and then use broom "scrub" all of enclosure, quick and easy (Sister Lopez has details)

Relief Society Meeting and Special Broadcast

Do not miss tomorrow's Relief Society meeting. We will be learning how to make our own cleaning products. And if you've been to our meetings then you know how much fun we have being together so come join the fun. Also bring an empty spray bottle, I'm guessing a sample? and your favorite cleaning tip (you may want to bring a notepad to write others' tips down). Tuesday, June 18, 6:30 pm. Child care will be provided.

We have been challenged!

The Young Women of the Ward have challenged their leaders, moms and the other women of the ward to a Personal Progress "duel." The group, Young Women or Women, who completes the most Values will received a reward, for us it is a night of pampering at the hands of our Young Women. Christine S., the Personal Progress leader has put together a chart showing the length of time the Value experiences will take and a list of ideas for the 10 hour Value projects that need to be completed to finish off the Value. Check out the flyer, chart and list on the Personal Progress page to the right. Also check out https://www.lds.org/young-women/personal-progress?lang=eng to see an online version of the personal progress handbook.

If you accept the challenge, please email Christine what you have accomplish each week and she will put your name in the weekly drawing for prizes. Let's accept this challenge and work with our daughters or the Young Women in the Ward to give them the motivation to work on their Personal Progress.

Stay cool!

The temperatures are rising, so please be sure your sisters and their families are able to keep cool. Report any problems you see to your visiting teaching supervisor or to me if they are serious enough to warrant immediate attention.

Please, if you have jobs around the house that can be done by one of them, don't hesitate to hire one, two, or more to help out. You will not only be giving them the opportunity to go to camp but also the satisfaction of earning their own way. Call one of the youth leaders if you are not sure who to hire.

First day of Summer Vacation!

Are you going nuts yet? I remember the days of having all the kids home and although I loved having them together I hated the "I'm bored" and bickering that came with them all being together. Hopefully you haven't encountered this yet but if you do check out this link http://www.ldsliving.com/story/72743-77-days-of-summer-fun to get some ideas to help your little ones enjoy the break and to help you keep your sanity. Many of the ideas can also be adapted for older children, like mine. If you have any ideas to add to this list email me and I'll post them on the blog.

Enjoy your summer

Other ideas (keep 'em coming):

Check out this flyer for a fun-filled day at the Mormon Fort. Have you been there? You should go, lots of fun things to see and do.

Here's the Personal Progress challenge. Use those "I'm bored" moments to work on a value or project.

Sister Moulton shared with me some advice she received at a recent meeting with the Stake Presidency and I wish to share that advice with you. Hopefully I get the details correct. President Richardson recently attended a training in SLC for his position as Temple Recorder. In a casual conversation with Elder David A. Bednar during a break in the training, someone asked Elder Bednar how they can keep their youth close to them. He responded with two suggestions: 1) talk to them 2) have them work on family history 10 minutes each day. I have decided to take this advice and added another 10 minutes of Personal Progress or Duty to God and 10 minutes of scripture reading. And I'm doing this with my daughter and it is a great way to begin the day!

School's out!

Those who attended our self-reliance class in May had a great time learning to make bread, took home a small loaf and samples of honey butter and cinnamon honey butter (all delicious). Several sisters have requested a demonstration on bread making without the use of mixers. So if you'd like to learn bread making by hand join us next Wednesday, June 5th @ 6 pm at the Roach home.

Congratulations to our 2 new Relief Society Sisters, Bailee Walker & Juliette Burgon. They will be graduating from High School within the next couple of weeks and soon making their way into our meetings. Please congratulate them and welcome them into our circle of sisterhood. We are so happy to have you join us.

We have had a couple of new sisters move into our ward recently. If you see someone you don’t recognize introduce yourself because she is probably new to the ward and feeling overwhelmed by all the new faces. Sadly we also have some who will be leaving our ward but not our hearts. We will miss the close association we’ve had but we are forever touched by knowing you.
